Doyle Brunson may be the greatest poker player ever but he nearly made his name as part of the NBA's first dynasty. George Mikan's Lakers who won five titles in six years and in the early 1950s nearly drafted Brunson. Years later, Brunson's poker career was almost cut short when his wife saved his life during a violent armed robbery.
